TOP SOILS & ADDITIVES for soil improvements

SANDY LOAM : A screened, consistent, top quality soil from prime arable land in East Anglia, suitable for most applications - usually has a neutral pH of around 7.0 - 7.5 and when dry weighs about 1500 Kgs/M3.

 

SCREENED FEN PEAT SOIL : dark, peaty soil, also from East Anglia. This has a slightly acid pH of around 6.8, suitable for ericacious plants, azaleas etc and weighs approx 1000 Kgs/M3 when dry.

RECYCLED SOIL : low cost, rescreened soil with small stone content for turfing or infill, making up levels etc. Limited in nutrients and therefore not suitable for planting. Reasonably heavy at about 1200 Kgs/M3 when dry.

MUSHROOM COMPOST : fresh sterilised compost with a fine straw content - alkali pH.

PLANTING COMPOST :10mm finely screened organic material, generally produced to Soil Association guidelines and approved for Organic Farming. High in nutrients, usually with a pH of 7.0 - 7.5 this material is easy to work and generally odour free.

TOP DRESSSINGS : we can make up mixtures from our soils and horticultural sands or mix soil and 10mm planting compost, depending upon requirements.

EEC sourced New Untreated Oak Sleepers

2550mm x 220mm x 130mm. (8'6" x 9'' x 5" approx).

EEC sourced New Untreated Oak Sleepers

1800mm x 220mm x 130mm. (6'0" x 9'' x 5" approx).

EEC sourced New Tanalised Pine Sleepers

2500mm x 200mm x 125mm. (8'2" x 8'' x 5" approx).

 

The new oak Sleepers are ideal for seating, clean steps, lintels etc and all uses where creosote treated timbers are not permissible under the latest EEC health regulations.

CROSSING TIMBERS : up to 14'/4.3m suitable for bridges etc. can be supplied

but may be subject to a short delay as we keep a limited stock and order sizes

to suit customers requirements.

 

 

LANDSCAPING MULCHES - suppress weeds, retain moisture

WOOD CHIP MULCH: composted whole tree mulch, suitable for shrubbery areas where price is the main consideration.

ORNAMENTAL BARK: attractive, dark, conifer based material, mainly natural bark content.

Generally 8 - 50mm pieces with some fines.

BARK FLAKES: larger pine bark flakes offering the maximum in cosmetic appearance

SCREENED SOFTWOOD PATH CHIP: regularly sized material, free from fines, light in colour

PLAY AREA MATERIALS - for child safety

PLAYGRADE BARK: larger pine bark flakes offering excellent protection in play areas. Conforms to BS7188, BS5696 and generally with BSEN 1177. Minimum depth required 4"/100mm for domestic use and 6"-8" (150-200mm) depending on fall height for public use.

SCREENED HARDWOOD CHIP: regularly sized material, darker colour and longer lasting, also ideal for paths. Conforms to BS7188, BS5696 and generally with BSEN 1177. Minimum depth required 4"/100mm for domestic use and 6"-8" (150-200mm) depending on fall height for public use.

SOFTWOOD PEELINGS: a very springy surface which makes a safe play surface when laid to appropriate depth - 8"/200mm minimum. Needs topping up annually.

VERDETURF - ARTIFICIAL GRASS - which is sand filled to maximise wearability, or

SUPER VERDETURF - a denser pile material, used without sand, but can be laid on a shock absorbing 10mm or 20mm protective pad, for play and sport areas.

 

DECORATIVE & FUNCTIONAL GRAVELS & CHIPPINGS

RINGWOOD GRAVEL: 6mm land based gravel, non-alkaline, ideal for surfacing paths, horticultural beds, digging - in compacted soils and blinding off tarmac surfaces

CHICHESTER CHIPPINGS: 6 or 20mm a mixture of white, brown and black crushed flint, an angular profile which beds down well for driveways and is very hard.

COTSWOLD CHIPPINGS: pale creamy yellow 14/20mm chipping, reflecting the character of the Cotswold Stone

GRANITE CHIPPINGS: Green, Pink or White/Black 14mm granite, extremely hard wearing

HARDEN RED PORPHYRY: Dark red 16-22mm, very hard and decorative chippings.

SLATE CHIPPINGS: Plum/Purple 20mm Welsh slate chippings, or alternatively

20mm Green chippings - both in stock.

POSTERN GRAVELS: Land based 10mm and 20mm brown, mixed flint/sandstone from the Kent border.

GREEN DOLERITE: 6mm Criggion small green chippings, ideal for decorative use in planting schemes, or to top-off Planters etc.

SHINGLES: we can supply traditional marine based 10mm Pea Beach or 20mm Shingle

SUSSEX SANDSTONE : 1.5 inch to dust for compacted paths. Also suitable as an alternative to Type 1 sub-base, with the benefit of no migration through a gravel or chipping top surface.

BREEDON GOLDEN PATH GRAVEL - a mellow limestone gravel laid as a compacted surface on a suitable base which creates a hard-wearing, realtively smooth path suitable for private and public areas.
